Grand Canyon
Each time I have visited the Grand Canyon through the years I still am amazed. This was my grandson’s first trip and I think he was truly impressed as well. He asked when was my first trip here. I told him it was when his mother was a little girl but somehow it seemed deeper this time. How long ago was that he asked, you are not that old.
Its interesting to hear the different languages from people you pass walking along the rim trail. We arrived around 10 in the morning and by 12 when we left all the parking lots were full. As we drove down to Williams AZ the road was crowded with cars, RVs, and tour buses still coming in. Almost like Disneyland.
We picked up Route 66 in Williams AZ. Had lunch at an Italian Restaurant/Brew Pub in a re-purposed gas station. The town has done a good job in re-furbishing and re-purposing the old buildings along Route 66. Of course being the first stop outside of the Grand Canyon probably helps.
This shop had Elvis sitting out front in an old 50’s Pontiac. The merchandise inside the shop lived up to the sign outside.
These photos were taken in Seligman AZ. Unlike some of the small towns we have passed through that are dying off, it appears some folks from out on the edge have taken up residence and made the most of the Route 66.
Remember these signs? There are several of them along 66 between Seligman and Kingman. My favorite that I remember is ; “He lit a match – to check his tank – now they call him – skinless Frank”
Tomorrow: Complete Arizona, then finish at the Santa Monica Pier.
